LevelUp 6-8 Unit 4 – What I know I know today,
Maths Objective
I understand from experience of constructing
them that triangles given SSS, SAS, ASA or RHS
are unique, but that triangles given SSA or AAA
are not
I can use straight edge and compasses to
construct triangles, given right angle, hypotenuse
and side (RHS)
I can use straight edge and compasses to
construct:





The midpoint and perpendicular bisector
of a line segment
The bisector of an angle
The perpendicular from a point to a line
The perpendicular from a point on a line
A triangle, given three sides
I can find the locus of a point that moves
according to a simple rule, both by reasoning and
by using ICT
I can distinguish between conventions,
definitions and derived properties
I can use correctly the vocabulary, notation and
labelling conventions for lines, angles and shapes
I can distinguish between practical demo and
proof in a geometrical context
I can explain how to find, calculate and use:
 The sums of the interior and exterior
angles of quadrilaterals, pentagons and
hexagons, and of regular polygons
I can identify alternate and corresponding angles
I understand a proof that:


The angle sum of a triangle is 180 and of
a quadrilateral is 360
The exterior angle of a triangle is equal
to the sum of the two interior opposite
angles
I know that the tangent at any point on a circle is
perpendicular to the radius at that point
I can explain why the perpendicular from the
centre to the chord bisects the chord
I know the definition of a circle and the names of
its parts; explain why inscribed regular polygons
can be constructed by equal divisions of a circle
I can investigate Pythagoras’ theorem, using a
variety of media, through its historical and
cultural roots, including ‘picture’ proofs
I understand and can apply Pythagoras' theorem
when solving problems in 2-D and simple
problems in 3-D
