Full Time starting July 1, 2017 (some hours available
prior to July 1)
POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
Evaluate calls to the hotline and prioritize needs, conduct assessments and provide
therapeutic evaluations and services as needed. Play an active role in the day to day
operations of the program design by creative outreach to all systems that provide services to
children including schools, after school care facilities, physicians, etc. Manage referrals
which include referrals to child aide when appropriate. Ensure the program provides
supportive, ethically appropriate, culturally informed services congruent with agency
philosophy to clients.
This position requires a masters degree/doctorate degree, and registration with the Board of
Behavioral Science or Board of Psychology;
License or licensing track for Board of Behavioral Science or Board of Psychology.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Utilizing leadership skills, implement the mission and vision of STARVISTA as
developed by the Board of Directors and Executive Staff. Implement the
program’s vision and strategic plan.
2. Represent STARVISTA in the community at large to promote the services of the
program, as well as other programs within the agency.
3. Responsible for smooth operation of daily program hotline activities. Including
speaking to parents, youth, educators and other providers.
4. Assure consistency of the program activities with agency vision and plan.
5. Cooperate with Program Director to maintain strong collaborative relationships
with referral sources.
6. Attend specific county meetings supporting program and build relationships with
providers serving underserved communities.
7. Review and ensure appropriateness of client assessments and services provided.
Keep in mind cultural and linguistic factors when appropriate.
8. Provide consistent on call response, including referrals and support, to program
calls. Communicate closely with the Program Director regarding crisis calls and
incidents requiring management level response.
9. Ensure appropriate and positive relationships utilizing strong collaborative
relationships with referral agencies and county providers.
10. Maintain current awareness of clinical issues related to programming and best
practices.
11. Assist with program development and marketing activities in conjunction with the
Program Director, Department Director and CEO.
12. Provide individual and group supervision to child aides.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Demonstrable, and verifiable skills and experience in providing assessment, case
management, and short term treatment.
2. Demonstrable clinical knowledge in working with children and families in crisis.
3. Appropriate written and verbal communication skills.
4. Demonstrable, and verifiable therapeutic clinical skills and experience in providing
individual and group intervention.
5. Strong ethical principles reflected in practice, including knowledge and understanding
of client confidentiality requirements, including but not limited to HIPAA.
6. Knowledge of laws, regulations and clinical issues specific to program.
7. Knowledge of community resources, referrals and follow-up treatment strategies
relevant to clients.
8. Understanding of diversity issues, willingness to explore self in relation to these
issues, and ability to provide culturally informed therapeutic services to diverse
clientele.
9. Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
10. Ability to utilize phone, text, and email to respond to inquiries on the hotline
11. Ability to produce documentation in accordance with program standards.
12. Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team with diplomacy and
professionalism.
13. Ability to work as a team member to accomplish tasks supporting the agency’s
mission.
14. Ability to develop, cultivate and implement a program vision that is in alignment with
the agency mission and values.
15. Ability to work well independently and to also have a strong team approach that
involves the Department Director and other agency representatives as appropriate.
16. Ability to problem-solve and/or seek consultation, support and assistance in finding
solutions.
17. Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with community
agencies and their representatives.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work in the San Mateo County community, in a school, home or community setting, and
in a clinical environment. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team handling confidential
information and documents as well as crisis situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrable and verifiable skills, abilities and qualities commensurate with specific
position requirements. Masters degree or doctoral degree with a goal of BBS licensing in
Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy or Licensed Professional Clinical
Counselor or Board of Psychology license

 Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

management.

 Able to make logical and sound decisions for appropriate and effective results,
understanding of when to seek help rather than use own judgment.
