Cooling water
<The
The useclient>
of water as a coolant is based on its wide
availability and high heat capacity. However,
dissolved gases and salts favor biological growth,
hardness and corrosion. Bio-fouling and scaling
result in organic and mineral deposits on the
surfaces of the water conducting systems. The
intensive use of water as a coolant will relay on the
possibility to limit biological growth, scaling and
corrosion through an economically-sound technology
with high operational reliability. For this purpose, the
technological measures chosen must be effective,
predictable and measurable. Low environmental
impact, easy to use and low operating costs are also
of great importance.
The implementation
The catalyst module is installed at a suitable location
of the cooling circuit (cooling tower pond, hot or cold
water basin) based on the water volume and
circulation rate. The light exposure is automatically
controlled through a timer and it is defined according
to the microbiological load of the system.
Since there is an increase in salinity due to the
evaporation of water in the cooling tower, a hardness
stabilizer Hydrex 2240 can be added. As part of our
maintenance agreements, we offer a continuously
optimal cooling water treatment
including regular water analysis
and
recommendations
for
operation in compliance with
the applicable engineering
guidelines and standards.
The principle
The BerkeMOL®LIK process rests on the interaction
of the BerkeMOL® solid-state catalysts, light
exposure and the germs moving freely in the water
system. Under the exposure of light in a certain
wavelength range highly reactive hydroxyl species
are formed on the surface of the high-performance
catalysts and thus biotensides are produced. These
remove the biofilms present in the system, prevent
regrowth sustainably and thus eliminate bacteria,
especially legionella. Due to the elimination of the
biofilms, microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC) is
prevented and in addition corrosion inhibitors can
work effectively on the free material
surfaces. Undesired side effects
for people and nature do not
occur. MOL®LIK operates
without the use of biocides.
