Water

Water: is the solvent of the body as every cell more than 50% is water.
As a solvent many essential substances are dissolved and transported by it
As a solvent many metabolic reactions take place in it
Being involved in metabolic activities
o it is often an essential cooling agent of the body as metabolic reactions often give off heat energy in the
cells.
o It is a rehydrating agent helping to maintain cell structure by exerting an internal osmotic pressure
o It is also an essential detoxifier that is toxins or poisonous metabolic waste of the body are diluted to
minimise danger to body cells before being excreted
In short water =a transporter + reactant + coolant + re hydrant + detoxifier + hydrostatic support.
Health tips on water

We wake up and urinate at night because gravity keeps or retains water in our lower limbs so when we lie down
at night our kidneys are now at the say level with our limbs and more easily work to get rid of this water
especially in persons with poor circulation (swollen ankles)
Two glasses of water or one bottle water first thing as you awake helps to activate organs of the body
One glass of water before a meal (not during) aids digestion thus water being served first at restaurants is a
good practice.
One glass of water before taking a bath helps lower blood pressure
One glass of water before going to bed prevents leg cramps at night as muscles are kept hydrated
Water before going to bed under research has been known to reduce the chance of heart attacks and strokes at
night. Diluted blood is less likely to clot, stick together and so form blockages of blood vessels to the heart and
brain respectively.
Fibre
Any plant carbohydrate that cannot be digested by animals becomes Fibre or Roughage.
Fibres/roughage
Insoluble fibre e.g. bran, wholemeal flour and breads, brown rice, whole grain cereals, vegetables, edible peels of fruit,
nuts and seeds.


Helps form a suitable environment for symbiotic bacteria of the gut
o Fermentation and breakdown of food into soft and bulky waste
Helps form faeces aiding the detoxification of the body by keeping us regular - egestion (twice daily)
o Preventing constipation
o Preventing cell damage by toxins and its resulting development of cancer cells, irritable bowel
syndrome, haemorrhoids and diverticulitis.
Soluble fibre e.g. fruits, vegetables, lentils, peas, beans, oats, barley, oatmeal, potatoes, dried fruit, soya milk and soya
products.

Help reduce blood cholesterol bind with cholesterol in the blood and removing it as part of the bile
Help reduce blood sugar by reducing the absorption of sugar into the blood thus controlling sugar levels
especially for diabetics
