Lambeth Vocational Services, Beale House, Lingham Street, London, SW9 9HG Tel: 020 3228 6800 Vocational Services – Lambeth. Vision, Mission and what we believe in Vision: Everyone has the opportunity to thrive and not just survive. Our mission: is to help people find their own way forward, to improve quality of life and well- being through the achievement of vocational goals. What do we believe in? Given the right validating conditions everyone has the potential to learn, change and grow. Mental health services (specifically vocational and peer support services) are better quality when developed, influenced and facilitated by people with personal experience of distress. We believe that access to high quality personalised vocational information and support is essential for the improvement of well- being. That working as a part of a peer support/work training project may be part of a wider vocational journey, not the end point 1 Our Philosophy and Principles Social inclusion and peer support are not things, agendas or concepts - they are journeys that can only be lived and experienced individually. Everyone has to find their own way forward and different people ask for different opportunities at different times. The process of this journey is different for everyone, but there are effective ways of facilitating progress and conditions that service users tell us they value. The key thing is to find out what people can or want to do -what are they good at, what kind of life do they want? Rather than what they can’t do, or what is ‘wrong’ with them. The link between recovery and social inclusion is that people engaged in a recovery process benefit significantly from a range of opportunities to change and grow as individuals. People often report a desire to move toward a more satisfying life experience through doing things that support the achievement of their goals. The implication for us is that we help people find their own way to achieve their full potential, as a core part of our practice and strategy. • A person centred orientation, to listen, to validate and genuinely help people get to where they want. • Inclusion is a multi-dimensional process involving the self and an opportunity or a goal, to reach somewhere better. • The primary principle underpinning any helping process must start with- in an emotional, social and practical sense- where the person is. 2 Currently our projects and services are: Vocation Matters Vocation Matters is a user- managed project offering time unlimited vocational information and support, that helps service users achieve their own personal goals. Including paid employment, voluntary work, education and vocational qualifications. Carpet Cleaning Care Carpet Cleaning Care is a well-established project, offering training and part-time paid work to service users. The project’s main activity is a commercial carpet and upholstery service. The aim of the project is to help the workforce gain the necessary skills, confidence and references that are needed to obtain employment or other socially inclusive activities. Incubator Hub We have an accessible and well- resourced building, where we coproduce innovative solutions and projects with service users. This includes an I.T. suite, training facilities and supportive office spaces for individual and community groups. Service users also run the reception area. Partnerships We support a range of community groups to develop community inclusion projects. This includes partnership bidding and project management expertise. For example supportive cycling and horticultural projects. We also host- in our hub- an evidence based voluntary sector employment project consisting of six staff, that we work closely with. Piloting innovation We work closely with a number of pioneering service users, to coproduce and integrate peer support in our hub and with other partners. We have extensive expertise in evaluating and publishing 3 pilot developments and have successful obtained partnership bids to evaluate projects with a range of voluntary sector organisations.
