Graduate Trainee Profiles
Ellie, Graduate Trainee 2014-15
Degree: BSc Psychology
Placements: Careers Network; Marketing and Market Research; Alumni Relations, College of Social
Sciences
I applied for the GTS as I wanted to pursue a career in HE management. My
range of placements has given me a key insight into the work of many areas
across the University and greatly developed a variety of skills, such as time
management, budget management and strategic thinking. I have particularly
enjoyed the project work in each placement as it allows for very independent
work and I have had the opportunity to produce valuable and impactful
outputs. The GTS also facilitates the development of a sophisticated network
of contacts not just in UoB but across the sector, further enabling a long-term
career in HE. The scheme is very well-supported and therefore also offers a multitude of
opportunities beyond the placements. Over the last year I have attended a variety of training
sessions, shadowed senior managers of the University, managed a group of student staff members
and got the chance to present at a national conference.
