John 13
1 Now
before the Feast of the Passover, when
Jesus knew that His hour had come that He
should depart from this world to the Father,
having loved His own who were in the world, He
loved them to the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having
already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot,
Simon's son, to betray Him
John 13
3 Jesus,
knowing that the Father had given all
things into His hands, and that He had come
from God and was going to God,
4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments,
took a towel and girded Himself.
5 After that, He poured water into a basin and
began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe
them with the towel with which He was girded.
John 13
12
So when He had washed their feet, taken His
garments, and sat down again, He said to them,
"Do you know what I have done to you?
13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say
well, for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed
your feet, you also ought to wash one another's
feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that you
should do as I have done to you.
John 13
34
A new commandment I give to you, that you
love one another; as I have loved you, that you
also love one another.
35 By this all will know that you are My disciples,
if you have love for one another."

But I say to you, love your enemies, bless
those who curse you, do good to those who
hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use
you and persecute you,
46 For if you love those who love you, what
reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors
do the same?
47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do
you do more than others? Do not even the tax
collectors do so?
Philippians 1
9
And this I pray, that your love may abound still
more and more in knowledge and all
discernment
10 that you may approve the things that are
excellent

Mark 10

“Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right
hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.”
Mark 10
42
“You know that those who are considered
rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and
their great ones exercise authority over them.
43 “Yet it shall not be so among you; but
whoever desires to become great among you
shall be your servant
44 “and whoever of you desires to be first shall
be slave of all.”
Christian Leadership…
• In Christ, leadership is not promoting or
advancing self; it is not using others to serve
or promote the needs of the leader.
• In Christ, leadership is being more concerned
with the needs and welfare of others than
you are with your own.
Pride is the Enemy of Love
• Pride chokes our ability to walk in love
because pride puts “self” out in front
• Humility, on the other hand, is that quality of
character that allows one to deny himself and
put others first.
• 1 Cor. 13:4-5; Love does not parade itself, is
not puffed up; …does not seek its own
John 13

“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed
your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s
feet.
15 “For I have given you an example, that you
should do as I have done to you.
16 “Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not
greater than his master; nor is he who is sent
greater than he who sent him.”
Mark 10
43
“…whoever desires to become great among
you shall be your servant
44 “and whoever of you desires to be first shall
be slave of all.”
James 4
17
Therefore to him who knows to do good and
does not do it, to him it is sin.
James 2
15
If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of
daily food
16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in
peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not
give them the things which are needed for the
body, what does it profit?
17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have
works, is dead.
