Junk Food Monkeys* – a thought experiment
Masai Mara National Game Reserve, Serengeti Plain of KENYA
SETTING
Many game lodges and accommodation facilities for foreign tourists
Tourists - 1st world extraction, mostly Western, with accompanying diet
Local staff at lodges are expected to eat the same food as the tourists
Large areas set aside in the ground as land fill pits for refuse
Incidence of obese Olive Baboons reported near game lodges
RESULT
Incidences of obesity, hypertension, and diabetes in local staff.
TASK
Develop a research methodology to test if Western diets are to
blame for the health patterns of the local workers
