A POTENTIAL NEW TREATMENT FOR KIDNEY DISEASE
•
As you get older your kidneys become less
efficient
o 20% of men between 65 and 74 have some
degree of kidney disease
o 25% of women between 65 and 74 have some
degree of kidney disease
•
Reduced kidney function which happens over a
period of time is called ‘Chronic Kidney Disease’
o This is NOT the same as ‘acute kidney failure’
and is not a cause for sudden alarm
If recent blood tests show you
may be eligible for BARACK-D
you may receive a letter
inviting you to take part.
•
Kidney Disease is linked with more chance of
developing heart disease or having a stroke:
o important to detect even mild kidney disease

Early treatment may:
o Slow down disease progression
o Reduce risk of heart disease and stroke
The BARACK-D study is using a

at its effects on kidney disease
