Extension)

Master of Professional Accounting (CPA Extension)
The Master of Professional Accounting provides specialised formal knowledge, capabilities
and competencies in accounting and related business areas. The Master of Professional
Accounting is designed for students looking for a change in career, and opens the way to
many vocational choices in areas of financial management, public practice, commerce and
industry, government and semi-government organisations, and accounting education. The
Master of Professional Accounting meets the academic requirements for accreditation with
CPA (Certified Practising Accountant) Australia and the Chartered Accountants in Australia
and New Zealand.

Normal course duration
Master of Professional Accounting (CPA Extension)
Full-time 3 years (6.0 sessions)
Normal course duration is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when
studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent: FTE). Students are advised to consult the Enrolment
Pattern for the actual length of study. Not all courses are offered in Full-time mode.

Admission criteria
CSU Admission Policy
For entry to the Master of Professional Accounting (CPA Extension) applicants are required
to have an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution (or
equivalent). The undergraduate degree if completed in Australia must be in a field other than
Accounting. Applicants without an appropriate tertiary qualification should consider applying
for the Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting or Graduate Diploma of Accounting
and then completing the Master of Professional Accounting (16 subjects). For international
students an additional requirement is an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no score below 6.
Score result must have been attained within two years of commencement of the course.
Applicants wishing to transfer into the program from another CSU program must have a
credit average on studies completed prior to transfer.
Credit
CSU Credit Policy
Students may receive up to 50% credit into the MPA (CPA Extension) program for related
prior postgraduate studies with a grade of Credit or above. Credit will not be awarded for
work experience.
Graduation requirements
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 144 points.
Course Structure
Students who enrol in a ‘CPA subject’, must be enrolled in the CPA Program administered by
CPA Australia and sit the CPA Australia exams. In completing the ‘CPA subject’ in the
Master of Professional Accounting (CPA Extension) with Charles Sturt University, students
do not receive the CPA Australia qualification until they have met all the requirements of the
CPA Program as set by CPA Australia, from time to time. For information about the CPA

The course consists of eighteen (18) subjects which must be completed in two stages. All
subjects in Group A must be completed prior to progressing to subjects in the other groups.
On successful completion of the Group A core subjects, students must enrol in the
professional level of the CPA Program. They will then complete the core Group B subjects
and two (2) of the four (4) restricted elective subjects while concurrently enrolled in the
related CPA segment.

Accreditation
The Master of Professional Accounting (CPA Extension) has been accredited by CPA
Australia.
Delivery of the professional level of the CPA Program in any university course requires
annual registration as a Tuition Provider
and annual course accreditation. As this course includes subjects supporting the professional
level of the CPA Program, it will be subject to annual re-accreditation.
