Plate boundaries—where the tectonic plates “meet”, there are THREE things that can
happen:
1. Divergent boundary= Where two plates are ___________________. More
plate is being formed there because of the magma coming up through the
crack between the two plates. *Usually happens on the sea floor and is also
called a Ridge.
Ridge
2. Convergent boundary= Where two plates are coming together.
-3 types:
A. ______________________________
B. ______________________________
C. ______________________________
*In A&B above, the oceanic crust gets subducted, or sucked down below, the
other crust to form a _______________.
*At a continental-continental convergent
boundary- Mountain ranges form.
3. Transform boundary is the third type of boundary. The ________ slips by each
other at these boundaries. *See pg. 459. These are also known as ____________.
_____________- happen at convergent boundaries where subduction happens.
__________________- happen mostly at transform boundaries, but can
happen at all three types of boundaries.
Now…grab 2 other partners, and a cup of playdoh. Show each of these type
of plate boundaries using playdoh.
Your assignment (for points) is to email me pictures of a divergent boundary,
a convergent boundary, and a transform boundary, using the playdoh. My
email address is on the board. I only need one email (of 3 pictures) per group,
but you need to list your group members in the “text” of your email, so I can
properly assign points in JMC.
