MATH 232: Engineering Mathematics
Reading Guide for LAS, Section 3.1: Orthogonality
Goals:
1. To understand the properties of an inner product (the “expandability” expressed in Equation (3.2), its relationship to the length of a vector, etc.).
2. To understand the relationship between the fundamental subspaces associated
with a matrix A expressed in Theorem 3.1.6.
3. To develop a geometric intuition of orthogonal complements.

Terms to know:
inner (scalar/dot) product, orthogonal/perpendicular vectors, orthogonal
