science, political systems, and philosophy.
The Olympics
• Describe the history of the Ancient Greek Olympics.
• Compare and contrast the Ancient Olympic Games with the games of today.
• The students could choose several of the topics listed below (but they are not
limited to these)
a. Explain the religious/cultural significance of the opening and closing
ceremonies.
b. How long are the games? How long do the athletes train?
c. How are the winners celebrated?
d. In what events did the athletes participated? (What were the original
events compared to today?)
e. What role did women play in the Olympics?
Expectations:
This assignment can be done as an individual or in a group. Each person picks questions
about the Olympics and creates appropriate slides for each question. If in groups, each student must pick
research questions. This will be limited to three groups of 2 students per class on a first-come first serve basis.
