Anvil Corporation is a multidiscipline engineering firm headquartered in Bellingham,
Washington with additional offices in Moses Lake, Spokane, and Burlington,
Washington; Kenai and Anchorage, Alaska; and Missoula and Billings, Montana.
Our professional engineers are registered throughout the western United States and
British Columbia. Anvil’s professionalism extends to technical support and field
services personnel who are certified and approved by state, federal, and ownerapproved organizations. Our 30-year history demonstrates our technical expertise,
attention to detail, honesty, and integrity.
Anvil’s Structural Department provides expertise in all construction materials. Our
technical services range from designing new concrete, steel, masonry, and timber
structures, to analyzing and upgrading existing structures. Our field assistance has
proven invaluable during the construction phase of many projects.
Design of New Structures
Anvil’s Structural Department provides
our clients safe, cost-effective designs
for all uses and construction materials.
Anvil’s licensed engineers, 3 of whom
hold a structural registration, are
knowledgeable about all relevant codes
and standards.
Structural Upgrades of
Existing Structures
Through years of experience working in
existing facilities, Anvil has developed
expertise in strengthening existing
structures to resist loads greater than
their original design. Our clients’ desire
to upgrade and increase throughputs in
older facilities has resulted in additional
loads being imposed on existing
structures.
By strengthening existing steel and
concrete structures, Anvil has saved
clients millions of dollars in new
construction costs.
Design for Modular
Construction
For over 20 years, Anvil has designed
facilities that can be completely
assembled in a convenient and less
expensive fabrication site and transported
to remote locations, where only final
commissioning is required. These
structures have been designed for the
rigors of truck, rail, and ocean transport,
in addition to the environmental loads in
their final location.
Marine Structures
Anvil has 30 years experience analyzing,
repairing, and designing marine
structures. Anvil’s experience ranges
from repairing existing timber wharfs to
completing the design of a $30 million
steel and concrete petroleum product
loading platform serving large tanker
traffic.
Buildings
Anvil’s experienced engineering staff is
knowledgeable in all types of buildings
and building materials. Anvil has
designed office buildings, large
warehouses, manufacturing structures,
and small operator shelters.

Structural Engineering Project Experience
Bellingham Boys and Girls Club
City Hall and Fire Station
Bellingham, Washington
Blaine, Washington
Anvil provided structural analysis and design drawings for
a new 30,400 square foot facility. Anvil’s design used
masonry load bearing 12-inch units for the 30-foot
gymnasium walls, which support the 80-foot span steel
truss and metal deck roof system.
Anvil evaluated the Blaine City Hall and Fire Station’s
ability to resist earthquakes. Anvil provided visual and
limited nondestructive field investigation and calculations,
identified likely problem areas, developed remedial
concepts, estimated costs, and documented findings.
Squalicum Harbor Weldcraft Buildings
Bellingham, Washington
Anvil performed a due diligence visual inspection of 3
Port of Bellingham buildings. Anvil focused on general
foundation adequacy, floor settlement, bridge crane
structural evaluation, and structural integrity. Anvil also
provided a cost estimate focusing on structural
improvements to meet the Unified Building Code.
Fire Damage and Pier Assessment
Bellingham, Washington
Cornwall Park Church of God
Bellingham, Washington
Anvil provided structural engineering and design services
to construct a foundation and retaining wall system for a
new 48,100 square foot Cornwall Park Church of God.
The project included a pre-engineered metal building, 370
feet long by 130 feet wide with a 24-foot eave height, a
gymnasium, and a sanctuary. The building required a
390-foot long and 12-foot tall retaining wall that extended
along the building’s east side and wrapped around a
portion of the northeast corner.
Industrial Waterfront Facility
Anvil assessed damage to the Port of Bellingham’s
Squalicum Harbor Island Mariner Cruises Dock, which
occurred when a burning boat drifted against the dock.
Anvil assessed structural and electrical damage and
estimated the cost to replace in kind.
Visual Inspection of Timber Piles
Port Townsend, Washington
Anvil visually inspected over 200 timber piles, pile caps
and stringers, and evaluated the pile’s structural integrity.
Anvil produced a condition survey report for use as a
planning tool for the client to prepare a rehabilitation plan.
New Marine Product Loading Facility
Ferndale, Washington
Bellingham, Washington
Anvil evaluated the structural integrity of multiple 26,300
square foot buildings consisting of structural steel and
timber construction. Anvil conducted field investigations
and engineering analysis of problem areas. Anvil also
provided a summary report that included a cost estimate
and recommendations for correcting the deficiencies.
Anvil added a second wing to an existing oil refinery pier
for loading finished petroleum products. Anvil provided
the complete structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and
control systems design for the $30 million project.
Anvil’s design used 14 large diameter caissons that
replaced more than 200 pilings. Anvil used extensive
prefabrication that achieved significant cost savings and
accelerated the schedule.
