Organelle and Function
Plant cell
ONLY
BOTH
Cell membrane: barrier, offers protection and shape to the cell
X
Cytoplasm: location of organelles; where cell “work” is done.
X
Nucleus: contains DNA = genetic information for cell structure and function.
X
Nucleolus: produces ribosomes
X
Chromatin/Chromosomes: DNA in the cell nucleus
X
Lysosome: digests materials
Vacuole: stores water and nutrients for plant cells
X
X
Ribosome: produces proteins
Chloroplast: performs photosynthesis in plant cells
X
X
Golgi Complex: transports “stuff” into and out of cell; makes vesicles in animal cells
X
Mitochondria: generates energy = ATP
X
Smooth ER: transports lipids
X
Rough ER: transports proteins
Rough = ribosomes
Cytoskeleton: provides stability, shape, and produces movement for the cell
Cell skeleton
Vesicle: transport structure for carrying things into/out of cell; made by Golgi complex
X
Cell Wall: provides outer shape and stability for plant cells because plants lack a true skeleton for
shape and structure.
