CORRECTIONS (+2) EXEMPLAR BIOLOGY
List of Multiple-choice questions for which wrong answers were given in the first edition of NCERT
exemplar and had not been corrected even in the errata. Now these are corrected as follows-
Strategies for Enhancement in Food
Production
15. The biggest constraint of plant breeding is:
a) availability of desirable gene in the crop
and its wild relatives
b) infrastructure
c) trained manpower
d) transfer of genes from unrelated
sources.
Earlier Wrong Ans.Given-(d)
Now Corrected to - (a)
Organisms and Populations
1. Autecology is the:
a) Relation of a population to its
environment
b) Relation of an individual to its
environment
c) Relation of a community to its
environment
d) Relation of a biome to its environment
Ans. (b)
Hint: Exemplar gives the answer as (b) but,
Autecology is the study of reciprocal
relationships between every stage of
development of a population/ species/
individual and its environment. Thus both
(a) and (b) are correct.
They have accepted our suggestion but
misinformed that it has been uploaded
online.
20. Which one of the following organisms
reproduces sexually only once in its life
time?
a) Banana plant
b) Mango
c) Tomato
d) Eucalyptus
Ans. (d)
Hint: Tomato is an annual plant and it
reproduces sexually only once in its
life time. Thus the correct answer is (c)
tomato. In the Errata, NCERT has given
the answer (a), which is again a wrong
answer. Cultivated species of banana
do not show sexual reproduction.
They have accepted our suggestion but
misinformed that it has been uploaded
online.
Biodiversity and Conservation
5. Which one of the following state is not a
major characteristic feature of biodiversity
hotspots?
a) Large number of species
b) Abundance of endemic species
c) Large number of exotic species
d) Destruction of habitat
Earlier Wrong Ans. given (d)
Hint: Exemplar gives the answer as (d), but
the correct answer is (c). NCERT
Textbook (pg. 266) itself says that
biodiversity hotspots have high degree of
endemism and these hotspots are also
regions of accelerated habitat loss.
They have accepted our suggestion and
changed the options as
c) Mostly located in Polar Regions
d) Mostly located in tropics
But Ans still given as (d)
Therefore still wrong, it should be- (c) Mostly
located in Polar regions.

Ecosystem

succession in water is:
a) Phytoplankton, sedges, free-floating
hydrophytes,
rooted
hydrophytes,
grasses and trees.
b) Phytoplankton, free-floating hydrophytes,
rooted hydrophytes, sedges, grasses and
trees.
c) Free-floating
hydrophytes,
sedges,
phytoplankton,
rooted
hydrophytes,
grasses and trees.
d) Phytoplankton,
rooted
submerged
hydrophytes, floating hydrophytes, reed
swamp, sedges, meadow and trees.
Earlier Answer changed to (b) which was
Wrong .
Now Corrected to - (d)
Biotechnology & Its Applications:

Now Corrected to - (b)
Evolution
1. Which of the following is an example for link
species?
a) Lobe fish
b) Dodo bird
c) Sea weed
d) Tyrannosaurus rex
Earlier Answer changed to (d) which was
Wrong .
Now Corrected to - (a) and option (d)
changed to Chimpanzee , so no controversy
