Use the following viewpoints to answer Questions 9-11:
1
We need more regulations for consumer goods.
With so much of our stuff coming from China,
I’m worried that kids are putting toys with lead
paint into their mouths. In fact, I’d be in favour
of restricting stuff that comes from China and
other places with shady business practices.
Like I heard about that factory that makes
Apple products and how the workers are
treated poorly. Not sure if I want to support
that.
2
We need to keep borrowing costs down so
people can borrow money to buy things and
invest in stocks and bonds. When interest and
savings rates are high people tend to keep their
money in the bank – that does nothing for no
one. Keep the interest rate low and people will
spend their money and borrow money. This
creates jobs and helps grow the economy.
3
What Canada needs is more investment by the
government in policies and ideas that will help
Canada in the long-term. So that might mean
higher taxes, but I’d rather have a sustainable
health care system than an extra $500 in my
pocket every year.
4
I believe that it is immoral of this government
to cut taxes, even the GST, when we have
hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars of debt. Do
you know that every man, woman and child in
Canada owes $14’000 as their share of the
national debt? We should raise taxes and cut
government spending so that we can pay down
our debt as soon as possible. Alberta did it and
now they have a rainy day fund….the feds
should do the same.
