KANTA SERVICES
• For private health care.
The following Kanta Services are intended
for you in particular:
• Prescription
• Patient Data Repository.
Your records are handled reliably
and securely in the Kanta Services.
Records are well protected to ensure
that no outsiders can see them.
Prescription
Prescriptions are issued
by all pharmacies, public health care
services and almost all actors
providing private health care services.
When someone acting on your behalf
seeks a drug reimbursement,
he or she will need your Kela card or
written permission
so that your eligibility for a direct drug
reimbursement can be established.
Prescriptions work as follows:
• The doctor draws up and signs
the prescription electronically.
He or she will then store it
in the Prescription Centre.
• You will receive a patient instruction
sheet on paper.
This gives the names of the medicines
and dosage instructions.
• You can then purchase the medicine
from any pharmacy.
• If someone else picks up your medicine
from a pharmacy he or she must take
along your patient instruction sheet or
Kela card.
When you provide your written consent,
or power of attorney, another person can
do the following for you:
• request a summary of the medicines
you are taking.
• find out about all the medicines
you are taking.
• r equest that your prescription
be cancelled when you no longer
need the medicine.
• r equest the renewal
of your prescription.
You can provide written authorisation to
a representative of your assisted living or
home care provider, for example.
After that, he or she can handle your
prescription-related issues.

KANTA SERVICES
• From My Kanta pages
(www.omakanta.fi) you can check
which prescriptions have been issued
to you and the medicines you have
obtained with them.
If you do not use a computer,
you can obtain a summary
of your prescriptions on paper from
your health care service and pharmacy.
• You can then purchase the medicine
from any pharmacy.
Outsiders cannot gain access to your data
There are strict limitations on
who can access your data
held in the Prescription Centre:
• The doctor who wrote
the prescriptions can view them.
• The doctor or nurse
who is treating you can access
your prescriptions,
if you give your oral consent to this.
• Without your permission, doctors can
only view your data in emergencies.
Exception:
A doctor can view previous prescriptions for psychotropic and narcotic
medications when prescribing such
medicines.
• Via the My Kanta pages, you can
choose who can view your prescription data. The doctor who wrote the
prescriptions, can view them.
• Via the My Kanta pages,
you can prohibit other doctors
and pharmacies from viewing
your prescription data.
• In such cases, you should remember
that you can only obtain
your medicine from a pharmacy by
showing your patient instruction sheet
or a printed prescription summary.

Patient Data Repository
Information on your treatment is stored
in the Patient Data Repository.
Doctors and nurses caring for you across
Finland will be able to view
your previous medical records
if you have given them permission to do so.
As a result, information on your treatment
will be better available, avoiding repeat
tests or duplicate treatment.
Information is being added
to the Patient Data Repository in phases.
Treatment records and test results
are now being added.
Via My Kanta pages
you can gain easy access to
your own patient records
in the Patient Data Repository.
The service can be found at
www.omakanta.fi.

KANTA SERVICES
You have a say in who
can access your patient
records
Your data in the Patient Data Repository
cannot be handed over
to other health care providers
unless you have given permission for this.
If you give permission for this,
your health care provider will not have to
repeat any tests and diagnoses
that have already been done.
This will increase the safety
of your treatment.
It will also save time and money.
You can also prohibit
the use by other health care units
of any patient data you choose.
You can give your consent or
issue prohibitions at your health care
service or via My Kanta pages.
A secure service
All data from the Patient Data Repository
is handled reliably and securely.
No outsiders can view your information.
The only persons who can process to
your records in the archive
are the health care professionals
participating in your treatment.
The existence of a treatment relationship
between yourself and
the party requesting access
to your records will be verified before
searching for data from the records.
You can use the My Kanta pages service
to monitor who has been provided with
access to your data and
to find the name of the pharmacy
in which your data has been processed.
