NATURE’S FURY Volcanoes
Volcanic Vocabulary
1. Volcanoes often produce cinders, charred bits of rock and
ash that can coat the ground.
2. When a volcano blows its top, a huge hole or crater may
be formed.
3. The force will break through the earth’s crust, or solid
outer layer of earth.
5. Sometimes magma is forced upward toward the earth’s
surface. This molten rock can melt the rock around it,
turning it into liquid.
6. In a volcanic eruption, magma flows upward through an
opening inside the earth.
7. Then lava flows out of the opening in the earth. This hot
liquid rock can flow slowly or quickly.
8. A volcano can blast away the summit, or the very top of
a mountain.
