Germlyser® HQ
Prevention through water hygiene
Water supply systems are a major source of nosocomial
infections. Point-of-use membrane filters – installed directly
at the water outlet – are an established method of protecting
patients against waterborne bacteria. In medical facilities,
point-of-use bacterial filters are used either reactively, as an
immediate solution in the event of contamination with pathogens such as Legionella or pseudomonas or proactively, to
deliver consistent protection to high risk patients from the
ever present risk of infection. Health Technical Memorandum
(HTM04-01) highlights the use of point-of-use filters as an
acceptable control measure in healthcare environments.
Part B: Operational Management indicates that, in high risk
areas such as haematology, oncology, neurosurgery, transplant
units or accommodation for older people, point-of-use filters
should be considered in the event of any positive Legionella or
Pseudomonas sample results.
Germlyser® HQ
Germlyser® HQ is a point-of-use hollow fibre membrane filter
and
-marked medical device. The horizontal orientation
of the membrane provides optimal space between the fitting
and washbasin making it easier for nurses to fill wash bowls,
reducing the opportunity for direct physical contact and, coupled
with the uniform and soft water jet, decreases the risk of contamination of the filter’s exterior by splashing. The 0.2 µm hollow
fibre membrane filter removes all waterborne bacteria without
altering the chemical composition of the water in any way. All
aspects of the Germlyser® HQ construction has been carefully
designed to minimize the potential for infection with the plastic
filter housing containing an additive, with special bacteriostatic
properties which has been tested and approved for use in food
or medical devices. Furthermore, the silver coated water outlet
provides additional protection against retrograde contamination.
Due to its unique features, Germlyser® HQ delivers a constant
high flow rate of bacteria-free water over its entire operating
time and effectively protects high-risk patients against nosocomial infections caused by water-associated bacteria.

process and following strict quality standards. Quick-release
couplings allow filters to be safely changed in seconds and barcodes, identifying filter and location, ensure simple logging and
documentation of the whole change process. Aqua free reusable filters deliver a significant reduction in waste and carbon
footprint compared to single-use filters.
