What were some of Lincoln’s promises or key points in his inaugural
address? Also, know the key points of his second inaugural address and the
Gettysburg address.
Where and when did the Civil War begin and who fired the first shots?
Understand the concepts of Cotton Diplomacy.
Who were the key leaders of the Union and Confederate armies? Is there
anything special about any of these leaders? For example were some asked
to fight or lead one side but chose to fight or lead the other?
How did the Union and Confederate armies get men to serve in the
military? Did it change from the beginning of the war until the end?
Know about the major battles of the war. What was the outcome of these
battles and how did it affect different aspects of the war? Who were the
leaders on each side? Knowing the dates of each battle will be very
beneficial.
What were the Border States and know who they were loyal too and why?
What were the major strategies of the Union and Confederate armies?
What side did the Native Americans support? Why?
What were the major difficulties that the Union had to over come? What
were the major difficulties that the Confederates had to overcome fighting
a defensive war?
Know the major points of the Emancipation Proclamation, how did both
sides feel about it?
Understand the concept of Habeas Corpus.
Understand the role of free African Americans during the Civil War.
Understand the concepts of the Dawes Act.
Understand the terms of surrender, where did it occur, major leaders
present.
Understand what caused the most casualties in war; know some of the
main numbers of soldiers lost during battle.
Why was General Sherman especially despised by the South?
Know the key people and terms of the chapter.
