Warm Front moving in
A front is when air masses meets another
Warm air slides up over cold air
Warm air is less dense
Creating a steady rain

Map of air masses & where the major air masses form
Air masses take on the characteristics of the surfaces over which they form
Air masses are characterized by temperature and humidity level
If the air mass is over water it is Maritime and is humidity
If they form over land it is continental and is dry

Weather Map of the United States from the Weather Channel
An important tool for predicting the weather
If you know the changes in air pressure and the direction of the wind, you can predict the
weather
It appears the Northeast is experiences some type of snow storm
Low pressure usually means a storm or bad weather
Isobars are close together meaning that they are experiencing strong winds
Areas of high pressure over Texas which means they are having good weather

A picture of uneven heating of the Earth
Referring to color, composition (what something is made of) and moisture content
Ice and snow REFLECT
Forest land and water ABSORBED
Land gives off heat

High and Low Pressure
High pressure= more air molecules pushing down
o Cold AIR sinks ( more sense) creating high pressure area
o No clouds form usually good weather
Low pressure = air less dense and rises
o Clouds form creating bad weather

Graph of the climate of a location
o Shows temperature and precipitation
This place shows no measurable precipitation
High temperature is -30
Probably in Southern Hemisphere


Uneven Heating of the earth; DAY & Night
This shows that the southern hemisphere is in summer



Uneven heating of the Earth; SEASONS
Seasons occur because the earth is on a tilt
This shows the Northern hemisphere




Uneven heating of the Earth
Direct & Indirect sunlight based on the shape of the earth
Direct sunlight is more intense and come in at a 90 degree angle
Indirect are more scattered and have to go through more atmosphere




Uneven heating of the Earth; CLOUD COVER at NIGHT
At night earth gives heat back up to atmosphere
If there are clouds; heat stay
No clouds; heat goes to atmosphere
