Radicalisation – Francesca
Blow & Dan Sanders
Dan Sanders & Frankie Blow from WSCC Community Safety and Wellbeing
Service consulted with members of the Youth Cabinet on.
‘online’ Radicalisation. Where they were looking gain a better
understanding about what Radicalisation means to young people, what are
their concerns, how much do they know about it? all with an ‘online’ focus.
This incite will then be used to look at how young people can best be
supported and build their resilience to being radicalised ‘online
CD to discuss
with Dan &
Frankie about
developing
work with
Youth Cabinet.
Welcome & Apologies
Welcome Peter & Dylan, two new members to the Youth Cabinet.
Youth Cab were asked what they thought radicalisation meant, as well as
look through quotes to establish what they felt was an extremist view and
what wasn’t. Youth Cab members also gave feedback on a selection of
three videos in “Techniques Of Propaganda” series from ‘Digital
Disruption’ they were asked what was good about the video content
visuals and was the message clear
Assertion: Length of video is good, but the point needs to be clearer and
made more interesting. Do not feel that there was enough of an impact.
Scapegoating: Video is “awful” as example is not relevant. People talking
about their experiences felt to be more effective. Point is important but
the visual does nothing to help explain it. Colours have connotations.
Because one issue is that people don’t think it is happening, using a
cartoon does not help make it real. Use real examples.
Bandwagon: Similar feedback to previous videos. The images are more
childlike. Video only showed that joining in made the face ‘happy’, this is
not the point of the video. “Happier when you jump on the bandwagon”.

Members of the UKYP group and Discrimination group gave an over view
of the UKYP national campaign on “Don’t Hate Educate” they outlined that
this campaign aim is to
Campaign Aim: Reduce racism and religious discrimination in our
communities . The members outlined that one objective of the campaign
is for schools to run mini workshop exploring the issues on discrimination
to raise awareness. The group then presented a group activity using one
of the interactive resources which explored how young people can be
discriminated against. They outlined that they wanted to recruit youth
cabinet members to the campaign and asked them to take the resource
pack into their school and deliver the interactive workshop to their tutor
group and take a picture of the HAND sheets completed with young
people’s opinions. These can then be uploaded to our blog. Date to be
