OBJECTIVE
• By the end of the lesson, SWBAT explain how the
depression in Europe and Asia led to German and
Japanese aggression.
• By the end of the lesson, SWBAT explain how
Japanese and European aggression led to the start
of World War II.
• By the end of the lesson, SWBAT to identify the
two sides of World War II.
Vocabulary
• Imperialism - The act of taking over other countries to gain
power and natural resources
• Neutral - not picking a side and staying out of war
• opportunity cost - The costs that go along with a decision.

GLOBAL DEPRESSION
• The U.S. was not the only place where there
was high unemployment!
• European and Asian countries were going
through really bad times too!

Germany and the Depression

Germany was even more depressed than the United States
because they had to pay for all of the damages of World War I.

Germany had to pay ALL THE ALLIED POWER COUNTRIES:
U.S., FRANCE, GREAT BRITAIN, and RUSSIA.

Germany was still rebuilding from the war!

• IN 1932, WHEN GERMANY WAS REALLY DOWN IN
THE DUMPS, THEY LOOKED TOWARDS A NEW
LEADER FOR HOPE.

more jobs, more money, and more land!

• He was elected the German Chancellor in 1932.
