LAB: Cell Cycle– Interphase, Mitosis and Cytokinesis
SPECIMEN: Onion Root tips
Part-2: Identify and label the various stages (13 labels)
Block:____
Date: _________
Use the same root tips. In this section you will draw and color the various stages and follow the main events during mitosis. You
will focus on the following structures: Color the chromosomes, chromatin, sister chromatids (BLUE) and centromeres, color
nuclear envelope (ORANGE), the spindles (GREY), the cell wall (BROWN) and cell membrane(RED). Label the items that you
colored as well as the cell plate, the equator, poles, Metaphase plate and daughter cells.
1-For Prophase and Anaphase, determine if it’s Early, Middle or Late.
2-Use arrows and colors to identify the various parts of the cell in your diagram.

Questions:
1. Arrange the longest to the shortest phase?
2. Once the cells are done dividing they enter ________________________stage. Why is it incorrect to say that they are
resting?
Part-2: Mitosis
1.
2.
3.
Draw 5 stages. Each drawing should be inside a circle and the cell must be as large as possible.
Color the chromosomes and all the important parts.
Label organelles involved in the division. Use the colors indicated and all the labels listed in bold.
