Kingdom foldable
Organisms are classified into a six-kingdom system. The six
kingdoms fit into three domains, seen below.
Answer the following questions:
 Which Kingdom belongs to the Domain Bacteria?
(Outline this box in BLUE on your tree of life)
 Which Kingdom belongs to the Domain Archaea?
(Outline this box in RED on your tree of life)
 Which Kingdoms belong to the Domain Eukarya?
(Outline these boxes in GREEN on your tree of life)
 In each box on your tree of life, include: cell type, number
of cells, ability to obtain energy, and reproduction type.
 In addition, include at least one additional DEFINING
characteristic in each box.
TAXONOMY
Taxonomy is the science of naming, describing and
classifying or organisms.
The Greek philosopher Aristotle was the first person known to classify
organisms scientifically. He only classified things as plants or
animals. This classification system lasted for almost 2000 years.
In the 1700’s, Carolus Linnaeus created a naming system to classify
living things. He grouped organisms by their visible traits and
gave them two-part name. This is called ‘binomial nomenclature’.
When classifying organisms, these four
questions are applied:
 Is there a nucleus present?
PROKARYOTIC or EUKARYOTIC
 How many cells does the organism have?
UNICELLULAR or MULTICELLULAR or BOTH
 How does the organism obtain its energy?
AUTOTROPHIC or HETEROTROPHIC or BOTH
 How does the organism reproduce?
ASEXUAL or SEXUAL or BOTH
 Fill in the tree of life using your notes/textbook!
