What is the job of your
circulatory system?
• To transport
oxygen and
nutrients around
your body and
to help to get
rid of wastes
Circulation
There are 3 kinds of circulation in your
body:
PULMONARY Circulation:
the flow of blood through heart,
lungs, and back to the heart again.
Circulation
There are 3 kinds of circulation in your
body:
SYSTEMIC Circulation:
Moves oxygen-rich blood to organs
and body tissues and back to the
heart again.
Circulation
There are 3 kinds of circulation in your
body:
CORONARY
Circulation:
Describes
flow of blood
to heart
tissues.
Types Of Blood Vessels
Arteries
Move blood away from heart
Have thick & elastic walls, made of
smooth muscles.
Are connected to ventricles in the
heart.
Types Of Blood Vessels
Veins
Move blood toward the heart
Have one-way valves..
Are squeezed by skeletal muscles.
Carry blood with waste materials and
that is oxygen-poor.

Types Of Blood Vessels
Capillaries
Are microscopic blood vessels.
Connect arteries to veins.
Their walls are only one cell thick!
Nutrients and oxygen flow to body
cells through capillary walls.

Circulatory System by Brainpop
1. What parts belong to your cardiovascular
system?
2. What does blood do when it gets to the
lungs?
3. What does blood do when it gets to your
various body cells?
What is Blood
Pressure?
Blood pressure is the amount of
pressure your blood is exerting on
your blood vessels.
It is highest in the arteries, lower in
the capillaries, and even less in the
veins.
What is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is always expressed in terms
of two numbers, for example 112/60.
The first number is a measure of the
pressure when ventricles contract.
(pushing blood out of the heart)
The second numbers is a measure of the
pressure when ventricles fill up.

What is Blood Pressure?
A wave of blood pressure is your pulse.
Measure your resting pulse
Measure your pulse after exercise
A normal resting pulse is 65-80 beats
per minute.
1. Where can you feel your pulse on your body?
2. What do we call it when blood pressure is
HIGHEST?
3. What do we call it when blood pressure is
LOWEST?
4. What do we call it when you have high blood
pressure all the time?
Humans have 4 chambers
2 Atria
and
2 Ventricles
Atria
Atria
Ventricle
Ventricle
The atria contract together and the
ventricles contract together.
The left and right sides of the heart
are divided by a muscular wall called
the septum.
Aorta
SVC
Pulmonary Artery
Pulmonary Vein
Left Atrium

Which two chambers always hold
oxygen-rich blood?
Left atrium & left ventricle
Which two chambers always hold
oxygen-poor blood?
Right atrium & right ventricle
Other Heart Parts to Know:
Aorta: delivers
oxygen-rich
blood from
left ventricle
to the rest of
the body
Other Heart Parts to Know:
Pulmonary artery: delivers blood from
right ventricle to lungs
Other Heart Parts to Know:
Pulmonary vein:
delivers blood
from lung into
left atrium
Superior vena cava and
vena cava:
Inferior
Veins (vena) that come from the body
and deliver blood to the right
atrium

Your Blood Has 4 Jobs to Do:
Four Functions of Blood:
1) Carries oxygen to body
cells and removes carbon
dioxide from all body cells
Four Functions of Blood:
2) Carries waste products
of cell activity to kidneys
to be removed.
Four Functions of Blood:
3) Transports
nutrients from the
digestive system
to all cells.
Four Functions of Blood:
4) Carries
materials that
fight infections
and heal
wounds.
Parts of Human Blood
Help fight
infection
White blood
cells
Transport O2
Red Blood
Cells
Help clot blood
Platelets
Contains

minerals
