A Leadership Point of View
Objectives

To relate this experience to a future leader’s needs
Audience

Time Required
45 to 60 minutes
Materials and Equipment

None
Area Setup
Ideally, participants will be sitting at a conference table or in a U-shaped configuration with the
leader sitting at the table with them.
Process
1. Invite a key leader to address your group and to share his or her leadership point of
view. Tell the leader that he or she would plan to speak for 10 minutes and be prepared
to answer questions from the group following his or her presentation. Provide some
questions for him/her to consider in preparation.
2. These questions could include:





Who were the most influential leaders in your life?
What did you learn from them about leadership?
How did they shape your point of view? How did they influence your values?
What do you want to accomplish at this organization?
What’s your vision? Can you describe what you would see happening once your vision
has been accomplished?





If we filmed your vision, what would the movie be about?
What are your core values?
How do your core values influence your vision?
What are some ways you’d like to see your values applied in your TSA chapter?
What advice would you give to all potential leaders?
3. Introduce the leader to your group. Take notes while he or she is speaking so that you
can synthesize and provide a summary to the participants as a guide for future
discussions.
4. Open the floor for questions and discussion after the leader finishes.
5. After the leader leaves the room, you may wish to help participants relate the
experience to themselves:
 What message most resonated with you?
 What did you learn about values and vision?
 How did the leader’s words affect your thinking?
 What do you need to do to prepare yourself as a future leader?
