Function in detail
– For normal driving, the spark plug must withstand voltage discharges from 20 – 30 kV, 55 times per second; in "stop and go" traffic, it
must resist wear-inducing load changes; and in cold starts, it must withstand soot deposits.
– To reduce spark erosion and to guarantee a reliable ignition, Genuine BMW High Power Spark Plugs use highly erosion-resistant
materials like iridium or platinum in conjunction with ground electrodes.
– The spark plugs’ heat range is an index of its capacity to absorb and dissipate thermal energy.

Iridium and platinum – hard and chemical resistant
Both precious metals are exceptionally hard and resistant to chemical processes in the combustion chamber, aggressive residues and

electrode form reduces the ignition voltage requirement and protects the engine from damage. High ignition reliability, uniform combustion

Exact heat range
The heat range is the measurement of the permissible thermal load of a spark plug. It describes its ability to dissipate absorbed combustion
heat. On the one hand, a spark plug must reach its free burning temperature (approx. +400 °C) as quickly as possible for a cold start, and
on the other hand not become too hot for motorway driving (max. +850 °C) to prevent pre-ignition. Genuine BMW High Power Spark Plugs

The semi-slide spark technology of Genuine BMW High Power Spark Plugs prevents deposits and malfunctions. This benefits cold

Optimal catalytic converter protection
Semi-slide spark technology provides optimum spark position for the best response characteristics. A longer electrode extends into the
combustion chamber and thus always ensures reliable ignition and optimal combustion of the mixture. This reduces the risk of unburned
residual fuel-air mixture igniting in the catalytic converter and damaging it.
100% reliable ignition through 100% material quality
To ensure optimal ignition reliability even on short drives or in "stop and go" traffic, the centre electrodes on Genuine BMW High Power
Spark Plugs feature a platinum disk and the insulators are manufactured out of a special ceramic. This allows the spark plugs to withstand a
combustion pressure of 40 Bar and higher, vibration, temperatures up to approx. +850 °C and chemical additives in the fuel or oil.
Housing treated against corrosion
The spark plug housing is made of special surface-treated steel. This ensures that corrosion and seizing of the thread is prevented even
after a long operating life, so that the aluminium cylinder head remains undamaged.
Quadruple barrier against creeping current
Creeping currents are "misdirections" of the voltage that are caused by contamination or moisture on the surface of the spark plug that can
lead to misfiring. The insulators of Genuine BMW High Power Spark Plugs have four ring-shaped profiles barriers. This prevents creeping
currents, which means the spark is created where it is needed: between the electrodes.
Each Genuine BMW High Power Spark Plugs is optimally matched to the characteristics of each BMW engine’s electronics.
