Topic: Parts of the Cell
EQ: How do organelles work together to keep
the cell functioning?
Organelles
●
●
●
Organelles are the parts inside the cell
They work kinda like the organs in your body, each part
does a different job.
Eukaryotic cells are either plant or animal. Plant cells
have a couple extra parts.
Cell Membrane
○
○
The cell membrane also
surrounds the cell.
The membrane makes sure
good things stay in and
bad things stay out.
Cytoplasm
○
○
The cytoplasm is the
stuff that fills the cell.
It holds all the parts of
the cell in place.
Nucleus
○
○
○
The nucleus is the “brain” of
the cell.
It controls all the other
functions of the cell
This is also where the DNA
is found
Ribosomes
○ Very small organelles
○ The ribosomes create
proteins for the cell.
○ Proteins are needed
for a organism to live
Endoplasmic Reticulum
○
○
The ER is a transports
system
The ER Transports
proteins and nutrients
Mitochondria
○
○
The Mitochondria
powers the cell
It provides energy
(ATP) for the cell
Lysosomes
○
○
○
Lysosomes digest
materials
They break down dead and
old organelles.
They get rid of waste
Vacuoles
○
○
○
The vacuoles are the
storage unit of the cells.
The store different types of
material like water.
Plant vacuoles are very
large.
Now the parts that only plants have...
Cell Wall
○
○
A cell wall is a protective
layer that goes around a
cell.
It is very durable and
protects the cell.
Chloroplasts
○
○
Chloroplasts are filled with
Chlorophyll, it is why they
are green.
The main job of the
chloroplasts is to take in
sunlight and make food for
the plant (photosynthesis)
