Passing on Genetic Informtion

genetics is the study of how traits from parents are passed on to offspring

traits are features that vary in size or form from individual to individual within a species
Ex. height in humans is a trait
speed is a trait in cheetahs

traits are often passed on from parent to offspring
Ex.
you have your mothers eyes
Nov 3010:26 AM

heredity is the process by which traits are passed on from an individual to an offspring

traits are passed on through sexual or asexual reproduction

sexual reproduction is common in animals

asexual reproduction is common in bacteria

the traits a person has are carried in their cells in a section called the nucleus

Role of the Nucleus

all cells contain organelles (parts) including cell membrane, cytoplasm mitochondria and the nucleus

the nucleus is the control center of a cell (both plant and animal)

it is also responsible for heredity

the information in the nucleus tells your cells what to do in order to survive

it also contains the information that makes you who you are
Ex.
when you grow, when your voice changes, when you lose your hair
Dec 17:27 AM
A nucleus is usually found near the center of a cell. It contains all your genetic material
