Key information about the Centre for Ecotoxicological Research
Centre for Ecotoxicological Research of Montenegro (CETI) was established by the Government of
Montenegro with the aim of performing testing and research of all segments of the
environment, testing of food and other products, and diagnostics for toxicants.
CETI is a licenced research institution (February 2013. - license issued by the Ministry of Science),
however, taking into account the rich experience of our employees, we believe that Center has an
exceptional base for development of scientific capacity in all areas that is established for.
Center is a leading institution of both high expertise and long experience in eco-toxicological
analyses. Laboratory is an accredited according to ISO/IEC 17 025 by the JUAT (2004) and MEST
ISO/IEC 17025 by the Accreditation Body of Montenegro, no Li 08.03 of 10 April 2008 for physical
and chemical analysis - drinking water and ice, food, water and wastewater, air, soil, sediment and
sludge. Physical-chemical analyses: drinking water and ice, fish, crabs and fish products, meat, milk,
honey, cereals and milled products, products of fruits and vegetables, cocoa products, like chocolate
products, confectionery, cream products, cakes biscuits and similar products, meat and meat
products, food plant and animal origin, food for animals, drinking water and surface water,
vegetables and fruits, biological material (urine, serum, plasma),alcoholic beverages, beer and wine
,juices, syrups and non-alcoholic beverages, air, sediment/soil, water and waste water. Through
proficiency tests demonstrated its competence in food, water, sediment, air and soil quality
analyses. Center can offer a wide spectrum of analyses conducted by modern, internationally
accepted methods and by using efficient and reliable laboratory equipment. Centre has a great
experience in implementing monitoring programs related to food safety. Center is the only
Institution responsible for waste testing and categorization.
Activities:
- Ecotoxicological and quality testing (physico-chemical testing and testing of radionuclide
contents) of all segments of the environment (water, air, soil, sediment, sea ...);
- testing of food safety and health safety of items of general use (physico-chemical testing and
testing of radionuclide contents);
- dosimetry measurements, assurance and quality control (QA/QC);
- testing of waste gases – emissions;
- testing of working environment (comfort-microclimatic conditions, chemical and physical
hazards);
- preparation and drafting of the act of professional risk assessments for employees and proposed
measures to remove the risks;
- testing of fertilizers;
- toxicological analysis of biological material;
- waste categorization;
- toxicological studies, analyzes and programs for government authorities, scientific research
institutions, companies and other entities.
The CETI's quality policy has demonstrated a coherent commitment to quality in all spheres of its
work and activity, always with a view to winning the trust of its clients with respect to its
competence, impartiality and consistence of tests and studies conducted. CETI has been recognized
as a competent institution and partner to many renowned international companies. The scope of its
activities, and type and number of tests and analyses done have largely increased in years, resulting
in an impressive list of beneficiaries of its services. CETI offers a wide range of analyses, performed
under up-to-date, internationally recognized methods, on the top quality and most reliable
laboratory equipment.
Today, CETI can offer a wide spectrum of analyses conducted by modern, internationally accepted
methods and by using efficient and reliable laboratory equipment. CETI is trying to expand its
activity in scope of testing, type of studies, and number of analyses, resulting in increased list of
clients using its services, ensure accuracy and precision of laboratory results and the competence of
laboratory operations participating in inter laboratory testing, maintain the quality of technical and
instrumental resources and built the extremely qualified and motivated team. Identification of
heavy metals, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH), polychlorinated biphenyl, dioxins and
veterinary drugs, biotoxin, narcotics are some of the analysis that are implemented in the Center.
Some of laboratory techniques: Gas chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MSMS), Gas
chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC-MS), Gas chromatography (GC – ECD, FID, NPD, TCD,
PID,FPD), High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC - UV, RF, DAD,RID), Liquid
chromatography with mass spectrometer LC- MS, Liquid chromatography with tandem mass
spectrometer LC- MSMS, Inductive coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry (ICPS),
Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS),Atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS)
with flame and graphite furnace.
Centre has a great experience in implementing monitoring programs related to food safety:
For the Veterinary Administration - Monitoring program for residues of pharmacologically active
substances and drugs in animals and products of animal origin.
For the Phytosanitary Administration - Monitoring program for residues of pesticides and other
toxic substances in foods and products of plant origin.
Center has an excellent cooperation with forensic medicine - Clinical Center of Montenegro.
Analysis of biological materials on the content of toxic substances is also one of important activities
of the Center.
As an Institution that is among others established for environment quality control and with the
great experience in this field, Center has confirmed its quality through cooperation with national for the Agency for environmental protection, Centre does governmental monitoring for:
• The air quality monitoring;
• The monitoring of land/soil;
• The monitoring of radioactivity in the environment;
• The monitoring of environmental noise.
and with international institutions:
• KAP FEASIBILITY STUDY - subcontractor SWECO INTERNATIONAL AB;
• Site Investigations and Preparation Study for the Remediation of Industrial Waste Disposal Sites
in Montenegro - Program HOT SPOTS - subcontractor of the Company CDM;
• Project ” Remediation and recultivation of tailings impoundment of lead and zinc in Mojkovac”
book 5, water quality and sludge, 2004/2005;
• Project of the determination of hazardous waste in BiH for CETEOR - Sarajevo BiH.
Center has also as a partner a significant experience in realization of projects with donor assistance
from the EU or through donations from IAEA:
IPA - Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance:
-
