doing things that guides a person’s daily behavior.
B. Most people have a national culture with people in their
own country, and they also may have shared religious practices,
beliefs and language in common with other countries.
C. Sometimes culture dominates a region where people share
culture traits like dress, food, law, and religion.
D. Culture groups that share beliefs and practices learned
from their parents, grandparents and ancestors are called ethnic
groups.
E. When people from different cultures live in the same
country that country is multicultural. (USA)
F. Race is based on inherited physical and biological traits.
G. Culture may change over time. People may borrow
aspects of another culture as a result of long-term contact with
another culture. This is called acculturation.
II. Cultural Differences
A. A symbol is a sign that stands for something else. The sets
of sounds in language are symbols. There are hundreds of
languages spoken around the world.
III. Development of Culture
A. People live in families and have rituals or traditions that
go with the birth of a baby, the wedding of a couple or the
death of a person in the family. But people in different
places meet these needs in unique ways. They eat
different foods, listen to different music, build different
houses and have different rules for behavior.
B. History and environment shape culture. Events of history
affect people in areas around the world. Culture
determines how people use and shape their landscape.
