IMDHA IN HEALTH CARE FACILITIES WORLDWIDE
Camille Harris & Dr. Robert Levine are on staff at the Henry Ford Health System
Center for Integrative Medicine. Camille delivers hypnotherapy in the Center for
Integrative Medicine (CIM), one of the first to be fully integrated in a major healthcare
system. Camille is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified IMDHA
Hypnotherapist. She works with individuals to meet goals such as reducing stress,
improving performance, smoking cessation, pain reduction, and preparation for surgery
or medical procedures. She uses hypnosis to teach skills that strengthen the mind-body
connection and facilitate health and healing.
Levine states: I use hypnotherapy, along with other therapies. I participated in a surgical
first, using hypnosis I provided and acupuncture, in place of general and spinal
anesthesia. Subconsciously Speaking featured an article about it. I also prepared a
bladder cancer client for bladderectomy. The prognosis was that the patient would be in
intensive care for 7-10 days. After 3 hypnosis and 3 acupuncture sessions, and use of a
self-hypnosis reinforcement CD provided 3 days prior to surgery, the patient avoided
intensive care after the 9.5 hr surgery and was discharged in 6 days! Dr. Levine was
recently awarded a $1M grant over 3 years to study multimodal integrative care for
chronic low back pain compared to conventional care. Each integrative group has
hypnotherapy in a key modality as part of the treatment. We are funded by the Susan
Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. (.25M over 2 years) to test acupuncture for alleviating
hot flash symptoms in breast cancer patients receiving hormonal therapy.
Other funds will be used to add a group to this trial that will receive multimodal care that
includes hypnotherapy. We are applying for 2 NIH grants using hypnotherapy as part of
the strategy; one for alleviating hot flash symptoms in prostate cancer patients receiving
hormonal therapy, and the other to reduce/eliminate symptoms of tinnitus. Later in the
year there are more to come!
Dr. Levine is internationally recognized for his research on mechanisms underlying
premature nerve cell death in neurological diseases, including Parkinson’s disease. He
has published numerous scientific articles and edited several books related to his
research. He is also an IMDHA Certified hypnotherapist and certified in St. John
Neuromuscular Therapy, somatic functional therapy, and acupuncture, a graduate of the
Medical Acupuncture for Physicians Program offered by UCLA School of Medicine. He
oversees all complementary and integrative medicine research for HFHS and is currently
running several clinical trials testing the efficacy of integrative medicine approaches.

Email: [email protected] Diane Pope works at Affiliated Mental Health Center in
Tomball, TX. Her sign says: Diane Pope Hypnotherapist. She informs us, Affiliated
Mental Health Services is owned and run by a MSW. It is composed of 2 other MSWs, a
Licensed Chemical Dependence Counselor and herself. There is also a massage therapist,
a health food specialist and a Yoga instructor available. I contract for space, use of the
credit processing, and minimal office help for a split. I have my own office and handle
my own advertising. I set my own appointments as I have another office in Houston. The
location has brought referrals from psychiatrists I might have otherwise missed
elsewhere. When I find a client whose needs are out of my area of expertise, I refer them
to team members and they in turn refer many of their clients to me for hypnosis. On
occasion if they hit a block in therapy I do regression work to move things along. I have
the ability to go onto some of their managed care contracts. We have been working under
this arrangement for about 5 years and everyone is happy.
