Greek Mytholagy
Athena

A theory of Athena's birth
So to say, following the battle between Titans and the Olympian gods Zeus,
king of the gods, lay with the Titaness Metis.( her name really means wisdom
or deep thought) When Metis fell pregnant her parents told Zeus the child
would have bravery and wisdom to challenge his own. Zeus, having no
choice, turned Metis into a fly and swallowed her to try to stop such a
powerful and possibly threatening child from being born. During the battle of
the giants and Olympians Zeus had an unbearable headache and asked his son
to cut open his head to find the source of the pain.He did what his father
asked and there sprung the fully-grown and armored godess, Athena, ready to
join the fight.
What Athena is known for and known for
making
Athena was a very important godess in greek mytholagy. She was known as the
godess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice and skill. She was also known as
Zeus's favorite child. She was brave and fierce but only fought to protect her
home. She was olso the goddess of the city, handicrafts, and agriculture. She was
known to make the bridle, which permitted man to tame horses, the trumpet,
the flute, the pot, the rake, the plow, the yoke, the ship, and the chariot.
The weaving contest
A basic idea was that in greek mytholagy Athena was challenged to a weaving
contest by Arachne. Arachne was a very inpressive mortal weaver. She thought
that she was so magnificant that she compared herself to Athena. They held a
weaving contest was held and there are 2 theories. One that Zeus was the judge
of the contest and Athena had the most inpressive image woven and Arachne was
transformed into a spider. Two that Arachne had such a disspleasing weaving that
Athena tore Arachne's tapestry to bits. She made Arachne feel so much guilt she
hung herself. Athena feld bad for the child that she brought her back to the living
as a spider . As you see either story Arachne is turned into a spider to weave
forever.
Why I think Athena has an owl as a
symbol
After a lot of though I have an idea of why Athena has an owl as her symbol. An
owl is known to be wise and quiet. Athena, being the goddess of wisdom, took in
the owl as her symbol. Wise describes them both and in my opinion an owl is a
very good symbol for being wise.
