Short Story Group Project English IV Mrs. Sharp Quiz Grade Objective: Groups of four students will choose a short story to present to the class with a digital project (Google Presentation, powerpoint, or Prezi) that includes information about the author, literary period, historical context, theme, prominent literary devices the author uses to exemplify theme (such as symbolism, parallel structure, irony, foreshadowing, etc...). The project is due on the day that the class will read the short story. The group will present the visual project, and either take turns reading the story aloud, or embed an audio of the story, and also submit ten typed multiple choice questions­­with the answer marked­­to the teacher only. Students should include a works cited list as the last slide of the project and initial the slide he or she created. Problem Solve: Make sure that the project is accessible to ALL group members because absences do happen, and not having access to your own project is not excusable in this day and age! If you use, Google Presentations, then immediately share your project with everyone in your group; otherwise, give your members the ability to edit the Prezi or powerpoint you’re creating by e­mailing it to them the first day. Each slide will have a suitable background and image that reflects the purpose and information of each slide. Don’t include too much information on each slide. Keep your audience in mind. ❏ Title Slide­­title, author’s full name, and group members’ names with a background and image that reflects. ❏ Author Slide­­information about the author, when he lived and where, what influenced him or her to write the story, what other works he or she published, legacy. ❏ Historical Context­­what was going on in the world when the story was written. How does the story reflect this and respond to current events. ❏ Literary Period­­what is the literary period when the story was written and what characteristics of the short story exemplify these elements? ❏ Character list­­names of the characters and a little information about them. ❏ Setting­­where and when is the story taking place? ❏ Conflict­­what kind of conflict(s) are present in the story? ❏ Elements­­what literary devices or elements does the author especially emphasize in the story? ❏ Theme­­what is the theme of the story (author’s message about life or human nature). ❏ Works Cited­­correctly cite all sources used for information. Use MLA citation. ❏ Multiple Choice Questions about the short story­­typed with answers marked­­only given to me. Not all questions should be plot­driven. Create ten questions with five answer choices, limiting the number of questions that have “all of the above” or “none of the above” as options. Short Story Selections

Mon., Feb. 2 Individual Participation: The project should reflect each member’s contributions. I’ll assign a process grade each day for evident progress during the three days in class that you are given to work on the project. This means that each member is creating, researching, analyzing, etc... If a person is on his or her phone or other electronic device during production, then that person receives a zero for the day. You should be able to show me what you did each day. If you are absent the day of the presentation, you will have to write a one page essay about the short story’s theme and how the author conveys it (to be uploaded on Turnitin.com with a less than 10% originality score). Each slide should have the student’s initials at the bottom righthand corner of the slide to show that he or she was responsible for creating it.
