The Circulatory System Overview

Moves nutrients, gases, hormones, blood cells
throughout the body

60,000 miles of blood vessels supply the various
tissues of our bodies

The heart is the driving force of the circulatory
system, beating 100,000 times each day

The lungs are responsible for the exchange of O2
and CO2
+
Blood

Red blood cells, erythrocytes, transport gases like O2 and CO2

Platelets help clot wounds

White blood cells, leukocytes, are part of the immune system

Fun fact about blood: In the early 19th century, some advertisements
claimed that riding the carousel was good for the circulation of
blood!!!

Use two fingers and a watch or a pulse meter
+
Heart Rate Continued...

Resting heart rate is the number of beats per minute when
you are at complete rest

Maximum heart rate is the highest number of beats the heart
can contract in 1 minute

Maximum heart rate is predicted:

Boys Maximum heart rate = 226 – Age
