Organ Systems
What is the job of the
circulatory system?
Move blood through
the body
What is the job
of blood?
1. carry food, oxygen, water
to cells
2. remove waste from cell
What is the job of
the respiratory system?
1. bring oxygen to the blood
2. remove waste gas
(carbon dioxide)
How do the circulatory and
respiratory systems
work together?
We talk about them together
because the respiratory system
brings oxygen to the blood and
the circulatory system moves the
blood through the body.
What is the job of the
excretory system?
it removes liquid
waste from the body
What is the job of the
digestive system?
it breaks down food
What is the job of
the nervous system?
it is the master
control of the body
What are the five senses?
(Not the body parts.)
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
sight
hearing
smell
taste
touch
What is the job of the
skeletal system?
1. supports the body
2. protects body organs
What is the job of the
muscular system?
it allows the organism
to move
How do the skeletal
and muscular systems
work together?
Muscles are attached to
the bones so when the
muscle moves the bones
automatically do also.
What is metamorphosis?
a change in body form
What is meant by an
organisms life cycle?
the stages of growth and change
What are the stages
of a life cycle (in order)?
1.
2.
3.
4.
birth
growth
reproduction
death
What is meant by an
organisms life span?
how long a living
thing is expected
to live
What do scientists think
decides a life span?
Scientists aren’t sure, they think
it might have to do with cell
division
What is the making
of offspring called?
reproduction
What is it called
when a bud forms,
falls off, and
becomes a new
animal?
budding
What is it called
when a new animal
develops from just a
part of the animal?
regeneration
What is the joining of
egg and sperm
called?
fertilization
1. What is the female cell?
2. What is the male cell?
1. egg
2. sperm
What is heredity?
passing of traits from
parents to offspring
What is camoflage?
blending in due to color
What are traits to help an
animal survive called?
adaptations
1. gills/fins
2. fur
3. legs
4. neck
5. shell
6. trunk
7. bright colors
How do these
adaptations
help animals?
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
swim and breathe underwater
blending in a warmth
running fast
get food other animals can’t
protect soft body parts
grasp things
attract a mate
What is mimicry?
one organism
imitates another
How are the Monarch
butterfly and the Viceroy
an example of mimicry?
The Viceroy looks like the
Monarch which tastes
bad to predators.
What are some examples
of relexes?
eye blinking
shivering
increased breathing when scared
What are some examples
of instinct?
spinning a web
building a nest
What are some examples
of migration?
birds fly south
salmon to lay eggs
