What happened at the latest meeting?

Thank you everyone who attended the meeting on the Sunday of the Labour
Day long weekend! We had a productive and enjoyable meeting!
There were three speakers, Simon, Wing and Kelly. Wing’s speech was “Blood
Champion” from Advanced Communication manual “Special Occasion
Speeches”. Kelly’s speech was “Are you addicted to mobile phone” from
another Advanced Communication manual titled “Speaking to inform”. Simon
did his sixth speech from Competent Communication manual. He talked about
the importance and benefits of the mentoring program and encouraged
members to become a mentor. Interestingly, Simon got his first mentee right
at the meeting. Well done!
For the word of the day, Marianne introduced three homophones, peak, pique
and peek and gave members some interesting tips to remember these words.
Gill ran the table topics session like a real contest and asked the speakers to
use ‘Geographical’, ‘Analytical’, ‘Chronological’, ‘Zoom’, ‘Dialectical’
or ’Functional’ to deliver their speech. All the speakers tried hard and managed
to speak for more than two minutes. It was challenging but a great practice!
During business session, we welcomed a new member, Hongming and
congratulated Kav and Marianne who both came second place in Area 7
Humorous Speech Contest and Table Topics Contest respectively.
Macquarie Division Humorous Speech & Table Topics Contest will be on 15th
October. Marianne will be competing in the Table Topics Contest representing
Area 7 (as first place getter will be in Paris and unable to attend). Let’s go and
support her and our Area!
