Intended to make you feel comfortable and

Patriotism

Intended to make you feel like you will
display love for your country or financially
help your country.



Facts and Figures– statistics prove
superiority.
Hidden Fears– suggests you are safe from
danger.
Glittering Generalizations


Intended to give you hope and suggests the
product works every time.
“Glittering” because the products are
falsely attractive.
Transfer

Positive feelings or desires are connected
to the product. Insinuates that you will
have:

Intended to be catchy, clever, and easy to
remember.


Name Calling

Intended to damage or smear an opponent.

Intended to give you an uneasy feeling
about an opponent.
Big Lie
Provides you with an outrageous falsehood,
but it captures your attention because it’s
so outrageous.
 Convinces you into believing and buying it.

Scapegoat


Intended to make you feel bad by focusing
on your emotions.
Wins you over with sympathy.
Engaging Techniques


Wit and Humor– diverts the audience and
gives a reason to laugh often through the
use of clever visuals or language.
Rewards– bonus awarded to consumer for
purchase. (Toys, gimmicks, rebates, free
payment)
Buyers Beware

Be a conscientious consumer!

Know the game and don’t fall for tricks!
