Lesson 10.1 Graphing quadratic functions
Quadratic Function- a nonlinear function that can be written in the standard form
y=ax2+bx+c. Every quadratic function will create a U-shape graph.
Parabola- The U-shaped graph that is created by any quadratic equation in the form
y=ax2+bx+c
Parent Quadratic Function- The quadratic equation in the form y=x2

Vertex- The highest or lowest point on the parabola. The vertex of the graph of the
parent function is (0,0).
Axis of Symmetry-The line that passes through the vertex and divides the parabola
into two symmetric parts.
