WESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE COLLEGE DIVISION OF MATH, SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE COURSE MASTER SYLLABUS COURSE NUMBER: MATH 2013 COURSE TITLE: Elementary Statistics CREDIT HOURS: 3 PREREQUISTIES: Math 1513 COREQUISITES: None CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Provides an introduction of the elements of statistics. Includes frequency distributions, measures of central tendency, elementary probability, binomial distribution, measures of variation, normal distributions, random sampling, tests of significance, t-tests and chi-square. Projects may be assigned using statistical software. TEXTBOOKS: Elementary Statistics, Tenth Edition, 2007 Duxbury, Thomson Brooks/Cole LEARNING OUTCOMES: In this course you will: 1. Demonstrate methods for categorizing and graphically displaying data. 2. Calculate and critically analyze descriptive measures. 3. Recognize issues related to sampling, appropriate use of statistical tests, and conclusions drawn in published reports. 4. Develop linear regression models. 5. Compute correlation coefficients and analyze relationships. 6. Compute and utilize confidence intervals. 7. Perform various tests of hypotheses and analyze evidence for conclusions. 8. Perform ANOVA and interpret the results. 9. Utilize Chi Square and interpret the results. METHOD OF EVALUATION: Instructors must provide class information sheets (class syllabus) which specify course requirements. Class information sheets must clearly state the instructor’s method of evaluation. ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance is important. A record of attendance is turned in to the financial aid office.
