What is a Solid State Relay?
• A solid-state relay is a load switching device like an electromechanical relay
(EMR). However an SSR uses an electronic component such as a triac or
thyristor for switching AC loads and a power transistor for switching DC
Loads instead of a coil and contacts like an electromechanical relay.

When would an SSR be used?
• When high frequency On/Off switching capability is required that
exceeds the specification of other switching devices
• When the operating life requirements exceed that of an electromechanical switching device
• When it is necessary to withstand high levels of shock and vibration
beyond the specifications of other switching devices
• When it is necessary to switch a load via a SPST-NO device; at current
values of up to 100 Amps
