INTERACTIVE TEACHING RESOURCE
SESSION 2
God Is
Key Statement: We know God exists by looking at 1) Creation, 2) Scripture, and 3)
Humanity.
Supplies Needed:
 Paper/Pens
INTRODUCE THE LESSON
Activity
Begin this option by playing a game to help get students thinking about the lesson.
To start, pass out blank sheets of paper and something to write with to each student.
Next, present a question to the class for everyone to answer, such as “If you were
given $100 dollars for the day and had to spend it, what would you spend it on?”
Allow each student to write down thier answer on a piece of paper, then have them
fold up their answers and turn them into the teacher. At this point, the teacher’s goal
is to try and match each response with the correct student based on educated
guesses. It can be really fun as you try to match your students up with the different
responses. If time permits, play a couple of more rounds with different questions
and allow students to do the guessing.
One of the fun things about this activity is trying to match the answers to each
person while working off of your background knowledge about them. In other
words, there are marks from their personality that come out in their responses,
almost like the personality and character traits that come out in a painter’s artwork
and the fingerprints left behind in a sculptor’s masterpiece. At this time, turn to the
transition section to begin the lesson.
Activity
For this activity, begin by discussing: what are some things found throughout nature
that tell us about the qualities of God? Ask, “Have you ever been camping and really
appreciated your surroundings – the colorful flowers, the diversity of wildlife, and
the starry sky above?” Even if they haven’t been camping, students have nonetheless
witnessed a number of wonderful things within nature. Ask them to share what
some of those amazing experiences have been, and then follow-up by asking what
these things tell us about some of God’s qualities. For instance, in seeing the beauty
and intricacies of the flower one can see the knowledge and beauty and wisdom of
God. Knowing that the flower came from a tiny seed that germinated in the ground
and is now a radiant color, and whose system operates on a very complicated and
complex process of photosynthesis, should make us appreciate all the more the
genius and beauty of its Designer. Even more could be said when considering the
stars in the sky, etc. Give students a chance to see what they may be able to discern
of God from certain parts of His creation, and then move to the transition.
TRANSITION
Today’s focus is centered on exploring the case for a Creator by looking at creation,
Scripture, and ourselves. Because our faith isn’t blind but based upon reasons and
historical evidences, we will not only be encouraged in our walk with Christ but also
better equipped to tell others who deny Him.
Pressed for Time?
If you are pressed for time, instead of deciding which point(s) to cut out completely,
consider condensing each point to allow all points to be discussed. This approach
will be helpful during this session, especially since each point adds something
unique to the overall lesson.
