Adelinia is a monospecific genus that includes a species formerly in Cynoglossum. Although this and other New World species have nutlets similar to those of species of Cynoglossum, the New World species that have been included in Cynoglossum are not members of the same clade as the Old World species; consequently, the New World species are now included in two genera, Adelinia and Andersonglossum. These two genera differ in leaf, pedicel, and nutlet characteristics, with Adelinia having petiolate cauline leaves, pedicels that are erect in fruit, and nutlets with a slight keel above the attachment scar. In contrast, Andersonglossum bears sessile cauline leaves, pedicels recurved in fruit, and nutlets that lack a keel. SELECTED REFERENCES Kelley, R. B. Jepson Flora Project (eds.) 2013. Of the two western North American species previously included in Cynoglossum, Adelinia grande has the broader geographic distribution than the other species, Andersonglossum occidentale. The former ranges from southern British Columbia to California, while the latter is restricted to California and Oregon. The two species also differ in corolla, cauline leaf, and nutlet characteristics. The corollas of Adelinia grande are blue and white, while those of Andersonglossum occidentale are purple to red.
