Performance Assessment: The Cold War
As you know, many countries were impacted by the long standing tension between the US and
the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Your task in this performance assessment will be to:
 evaluate an assigned country’s history (information gathered from BBC or CIA or other
sites that give an overall view of your country)
 explain how your country was impacted by the Cold War
 Which of the two superpowers had the most negative influence on your country
 The ways in which the superpower influenced your nation (economic, political, military,
social….)
 What it is like in your country today as a result of the Cold War influences
 Specific reasons why you are asking the United Nations for reparations against one of
the superpowers
Remember, your job will be to determine which of the two major superpowers (the United
States or the Soviet Union) caused your country the most damage during the Cold War and has
left the most lasting negative impact on your country today.
In order to do this you will need to RESEARCH:
 Brief overview of your country (use Question sheet to guide your research)
 your country’s history during the Cold War
 your country’s current status, economic health, and other recent indicators
 Pay attention to how your country was hurt by the superpowers during the Cold War
and how that has directly impacted your country today.
Evidence of your research must include:
 Completed “get to know your Country Question” sheet
 Completed Super Power Organizer
 Note-Taking form for each of your sources ( each country is given several sources to use
in their research provided by UNAGB that are available on my wiki)
WRITE A PAPER: Individually, you will write a persuasive report on which superpower should
pay reparations to your country. To prove this point you will lay out specific details about how
that superpower damaged your country specifically and how that damage is still hurting your
country today. More details on layout of the paper to be provided
