Parthenon Model
Create a model of the Parthenon. It must be an accurate model using a
variety of materials. You should be able to see many small details
and be well built. It needs to have a strong structure and be able to
stand alone.
Greek Mythology
The sayings, “A Pandora’s Box”, “An Achilles heel”, and “A Trojan
Horse” are popular sayings based on Greek Mythology. Choose one to
research and write a paragraph describing it. The paragraph should be
well organized, including a main idea, details, and a concluding
sentence.
Ancient Greece Timeline
Create a timeline that covers at least 10 major events from 3000 BC to
146 BC. The timeline should include illustrations for the 10 events.
Travel Brochure
Create a travel brochure for an interesting tourist site for people in
ancient Greece to visit. Include a map and interesting information
about the site. Photos or pictures must be included in the brochure.
Each section of the brochure should have a title and/or headings. A
compass rose needs to be included and the map scale must be defined.
Sculpture
Create a sculpture of one of the Greek gods or goddesses. The sculpture
should be an excellent resemblance to the original object and have
many small details. The sculpture needs to be well built so it can
stand alone. A detailed summary/story must be written (in your
own words) about this god or goddess.
Greek Battle
Write a newspaper article about a famous battle involving ancient
Greece. The article should have a creative title name. (Ex; Ancient
Greek Times) The article should include correct details and
information about the battle and what impact it had on Ancient
Greece.
Greek Philosophers
Write a one page biography about Socrates, Plato, or Aristotle. Include
a main idea, supporting details, and a concluding sentence or
paragraph in your writing. Explain what the philosopher is famous for
and what their contribution to Ancient Greece was. Also, include what
their contribution to modern living is.
Greek Myths
Rewrite a myth using a modern setting and characters. OR rewrite a
myth as a poem.
Greek Recipes
Make a recipe book with at least 5 Greek recipes. Include illustrations
of the food on each page. The recipes should include what items are
needed to make the food and how much of each item. It should be
written as recipes are in modern recipe books. The recipe book must
have a cover. The book should be well made and have a strong
structure.
Greece Alphaboxes
Complete an alphabox sheet with at least 50 important words, people,
battles, etc. from Ancient Greece.
Theater Mask
Create a theater mask for either a comedy or tragedy. Remember that
the eye holes and mouth hole are extremely large. Your mask should
be very colorful and dramatic. There are some example papers in the
file folder in the classroom. Also, explain how and why these masks
were used in the theater.
Ideas for materials: white construction paper, cardstock, paper plate,
crayons, markers, paint, glitter, yarn, …
The Trireme
A Trireme was a fast ship that helped the Greeks win battles.
Research a Trireme. Draw and color a side view of a trireme. Label
your drawing showing all the important parts of the ship. There are
some examples provided in file folder for you.
Working at the Agora
Pretend you are an ancient Greek who wants to open a new business
at the agora. Choose a business that interests you the most. You
might sell a craft or food item, perhaps something you grew.
Fold a piece of construction paper in half length wise to form a standup sign to sit on a table. On the front of the sign, write the name of
your shop and what kinds of things you are selling. Use art supplies
to decorate the sign to attract buyers to your shop.
On a separate sheet of paper, write a sales pitch that will make people
want to buy your product.
Mosaic Tiles
Create a 9” x 9” mosaic tile floor. You will need colored 1” pieces of
construction paper, one 9” x 9” piece of white construction paper, and
one 9 ½” x 9 ½” piece of black construction paper. Tiles need to be
place in a pattern on the paper.
Greek Columns
Make a large poster (no triboards) showing the three major kinds of
Greek columns: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian.
1. Find pictures of each of the three on the internet: make a collage
of several examples of each type of column and where they can be
found.
2. Draw a large example of each type of column.
PostCard from Ancient Greece
Design a postcard with a scene from Ancient Greece. One side of your
postcard should have a scene from Ancient Greece on one side. The
other side should include a message written to someone with an
accurate experience at the location you chose. Address the postcard
and draw a stamp. NO PRINTOUTS FROM INTERNET!
Construction paper works well for this. You can also look at the
example in the folder of a postcard.
Wedding Invitation
Create a wedding invitation for an Ancient Greek Wedding. There is
a template you may use to trace on construction paper (or other
sturdy paper). Be sure to include the name of the two getting married
and other details such as place and time. Decorate the four “petals” of
the invitation.
Olympic SportsCreate a newspaper article on a made-up Olympic Event. A sample
newspaper page is provided for you to use as a template (do not write
on the template, please create your own using plain paper.) This may
be typed or hand written. You must include one article, at least one
picture, and one advertisement.
