Gods and Goddesses of Today
Now that you’ve read about the major gods and goddesses, show me that you understand them
by making comparisons between Greek Gods and Goddesses to our society’s “Gods.”
Select 6 gods and/or goddesses and consider the following questions about them:
 What are their accomplishments?
 What are their weaknesses?
 What type of personality do they have?
 How does this god act around others?
 What does this god excel in?
 What motivates your god?
 What types of people is your god drawn to/attracted to?
 What “things” or symbols does this god have or associate with?
Based on the answers to your questions, what famous people are most like those 6 gods? For
instance, can you show how Hades is like Hitler; how Hera is like Hillary Clinton; or how
Hermes is like Michael Jordon?
Write a good paragraph (75-100 words) describing how the two are alike using the format
given to you. Include a picture of the famous person.
Sample:
Hades and Hitler
Hades and Hitler both love death. Hades ruled
over the dead while Hitler sent millions of Jews
to their death. Hades didn’t like to have the dead
taken away from him as seen in the story of
Asclepius who used his medical expertise to
bring someone back to life. Hades got so angry,
he had Zeus kill Asclepius. Likewise, the more
Jews Hitler killed the more power he hoped to
gain by creating a superior race. Hades was
surrounded by others who did his bidding like
the Erinyes or Furies, whose job was to
encourage people on earth to commit suicide
thereby increasing Hades’ numbers. Hitler also
surrounded himself with henchmen who carried
out his gruesome orders of wiping out an entire
nation. Hades and Hitler have a lot in common.
