DRAFT PNAMP Data Mgmt Tasks – summary for discussion
TASKS
 lead PNAMP Data Management Workgroup (?)
 interact with each PNAMP technical WG to understand their goals and to
communicate to them DM processes, tools available, etc
 understand data management activities that need to be brought to PNAMP
partners for their use/consideration and coordinate information transfer to
appropriate PNAMP groups (workgroups and/or SC). Such as:
o base framework layer work, including hydrography, roads, infrastructure
o national or regional data standards, such as National Wetland Mapping
Standard, Oregon Barriers Data Standard, National Fish Habitat Initiative
o ensure maximum utility of past work, e.g. review IRICC standards and
present to PNAMP partners who were not participants in IRICC
o metadata (outreach/training)
o QA/QC procedures and tools (outreach/training)
 provide guidance to PNAMP technical projects to ensure data management is
integral from the beginning
o protocol preparation/recommendation
o protocol comparison research projects
o inventory projects
 interact with external data management entities in the region (liasion to NED,
PNW RGIC, etc)
 provide guidance to PNAMP SC on data management issues
Technical help with current PNAMP tasks/specific projects:
 implement Protocol Manager next steps, including:
o data dictionary assessment & implementation
o work with PNAMP partner entities for outreach/training on PM
o oversee input of additional protocols to PM
o guide further development of PM
 assist with project tracking database comparison
 assist with data management aspects of integrated Status & Trends Monitoring
demonstration project (new PNAMP task occurring in Lower Columbia River
ESU)
 assist with PNAMP goal to draft guidelines/recommendations for remote sensing
applications for aquatic resource monitoring
 assist with protocol method manual template development
Communication and collaboration tasks with regional data management entities to
develop data management solutions:
 Liaison with NED, PNW RGIC, others who may develop solutions to needs
identified by PNAMP.
 Share results from these groups with PNAMP partners.
Assistance with implementation of PNAMP recommendations with PNAMP partners to
ensure sharing of monitoring data.
• e.g. Protocol Manager (data dictionary) outreach to fish & wildlife managers
