Julian Marc Stringle
(CLARINET)
with
Dominic Ashworth
(Guitar )
Julian Marc Stringle was a child prodigy reed player. He studied clarinet with the renowned
Wilf Keeley and composition with William Lloyd Webber.
Captivated by the sound of Peanuts Hucko, at the age of 12 he formed
Young Jazz’ a teenage dixieland band
‘and made his TV debut with Acker Bilk.
At 17 he formed a modern Jazz quartet and started touring Europe.
Julian plays alto and tenor saxophones but the clarinet is his passion
and he is considered by many to be the finest player
on the instrument in Europe. A versatile performer/composer,
Julian writes TV jingles and documentary film scores.
He stars in the Digby Fairweather band that is currently touring but
Julian is devoting the bulk of his time to recording with the Dream Band
in an attempt to re-establish the sound of the clarinet in popular music.
Julian Marc Stringle is the best clarinettist to emerge in British jazz for several decades”
John Dankworth CBE
“Blues for the morning after is the best ever recording by a British clarinet player”
Digby Fairweather
“Julian is now one of the world’s great clarinet players – right up there with Eddie Daniels”
Jim Mullen
Julian is a thoroughly engaging and vibrant clarinettist. He’s got it all - sound,
technique, ideas and feeling!
Ken Peplowski
Dominic Ashworth
Born in Canada, Dominic first studied guitar at the University of Toronto. On
moving to the UK he continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music
and Drama before replacing John Parricelli in The Dream Band. Dominic has
written music for the theatre, radio and television, played with Mike Garrick
and his son Christian in their string trio, and recorded with George Melly,
Carol Kidd and Digby Fairweather. His distinctive sound is on all of The
Dream Band albums. Voted Best Guitarist, British Jazz Awards 2006.
